Everyone knows that humans will die out some day, right? Well, my dad and i discussed this yesterday...and he revealed some rather interesting views on earth and it's species.

Let's start with the dinosaurs. They lived for millions of years, right? Well, let's see what they did over that time.

    Ate animals

    Ate plants

    Died

    Reproduced

As you can see, there are not many things that they did, which may be the reason they lived so long as a species. However, that list is also the reason for why they died.

They ate animals, which can throw the ecosystem off balance.

They ate plants, which ultimately meant deforestation, reduced air, and less food for herbivores.

They reproduced, which can cause overpopulation, which just increases the effects i listed above by even more. With more of a dominant species, there will be even less plants, and even less animals. Plus, they reproduce even more, which means that eventually, they will run out of food.

---

Now, imagine that scenario with humans. Essentially, we are doing even more than the dinosaurs did to cause their eventual extinction, so basically, i fear our time on this earth is very limited.

Chew on this for a while.

I disagree... I think that humans will survive just as long as the dinosaurs and probably longer. I acknowledge that we are on the path to extinction through what we are doing, but I think that if any of these issues become a major problem in the future, for example eating and limiting our resources, that our species is intelligent enough to find a solution. We will eventually die out, as you said, but maybe not so soon.

Well, i agree that this madness we are continually doing will not last for long. But until we suddenly stop needing transportation and power, or until we discover how to harness alternative fuel sources (particularly hydroelectric, wind, dark, and solar), our time is limited. We might adapt to a harsh environment that this resource ocnsumption will bring upon us, but we won't last long enough to make it our home.

Stevie this has brought your iq down to 121 from 122.... We don't need trees for oxygen... 85% of oxygen comes from the ocean believe it or not... Plus there is always a new way to harness something else for fuel. And in around 153 years i believe we will have finally developed a foolproof way to "create/produce" the elements we need from energy....

I don't believe that. Do you have any proof that that is true?

Ok, but fuel isn't the only problem here. It's certainly a biggy, though.

Impossible. The Law of Conservation of Mass, Energy, and Matter states that matter cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed.

While you may be able to transform one chunk of matter into another, there is no way to create it.
