I never really realized how big of a role environment plays in how kids turn out when they get older. For example, I went to this really awesome middle-school for all three years, but when the time came to go to high-school, I choiced into a different school than I would normally go to (but still in the same school district) and the difference was drastic. The freshman class in general was very immature, annoying, ignorant, "goody-goody", and even shorter. After spending a year at the school, I started to adapt to my surroundings and became very similar to the people that seemed alien to me at the beginning of the year. Recently I took a visit to the high school where all my other friends went, and it reminded me about this. Am I the only one who thinks it's odd that two schools just a couple miles apart can be so different? Maybe I'm just too tired and BAD WORD up, but seriously, give me some feedback!

Most of the freshmen at my school are really immature, too. And i can say that, because i am one of the few mature freshmen. I look through upperclassmen's eyes when watching the stupid antics of my fellow 9th graders, and to be honest, i understand why most of them hate us. It's so easy to tell who is a freshmen and who isn't, not just by how they look, but also by how they act. Freshmen tend to clump together in the halls, sometimes blocking off half of the hallway, and they don't even care.
Now i, on the other hand, am completely different. Some people have mistaken me for an upperclassmen, and it's a true compliment when they look confused when i say "i'm a freshmen".
Sorry for getting completely off-topic. I have no idea how that is relevant to what you said, but anyway...i don't think it's odd at all. It's not the distance, it's the environment, like you said. Everything and everyone influences you and everyone else there, and it is no different than it is at my school. I hope this helped somehow.

Wow guys.... To stevie: don't act older then you are that pisses me off when people do that... You guys are still young and in 9th grade you're supposed to be a little immature and enjoy life and not worry what other think... Don't waste away your glory days acting "better" and more "mature" then everyone else... God u guys! I'm going into 12th grade btw... i feel old now... u cunt bagels...

I don't act older. I just don't act like a twat in public. Who are you to say i am supposed to act immature?
And for someone who is becoming a senior...you type like a 6th grade girl who just discovered the interwebs.
